The health of your skin is very important and you must prevent over exposure to UV light. Indoor tanning controls the time your skin is exposed to UV light by limiting the time you spend on a sunbed.
There is no difference between natural sunlight and sunbeds; tanning salon sunbeds produce the same UV light as the sun.
Sunbed use itself has a number of benefits. Perhaps the greatest benefit of tanning salon sunbed use is its link to Vitamin D

The best way to tan!
There is a regulation governing the maximum UV output of sunbeds. This is generally referred to as 0.3 and is approved by the EU and complies with all British and European consumer safety regulations.
A 0.3 tanning session delivers the same tanning effect as the mid-day Mediterranean summer sun but without the risk of burning.
0.3W/m2 is the amount of UV exposure that the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (SCCP) set as the limit for effective irradiance. This limit was then added to the European and British standards relevant for sunbeds. A sunbed with a UV output above this level is deemed as ‘unsafe’.
What you can expect from a 0.3 tanning session:
- Your tan will be deeper and longer-lasting
- The tanning process is kinder to your skin
- The risk of over-exposure or burning is effectively eliminated

What should you do?
Remove all jewellery and make-up prior to tanning as these act as a barrier & will decrease the tanning process.
Once in the private sunbed cubicle fully undress (bottoms maybe worn).
Before entering the sunbed you should apply pre-tan enhancing creams. They contain the finest quality ingredients available to promote the deepest, darkest tan and are fortified with essential nutrients, vitamins and moisturisers. Ask our staff for advice on the best product for you.
Is the tan produced by a sunbed any different from the tan produced by natural sunlight?
There is absolutely no difference between the colour of tan achieved from a sunbed compared to natural sunlight, the pigmentation process occurs in exactly the same way.
Both UVA (the tanning ray) and UVB (the reddening ray) are essential to achieve a tan. The advantage of using a sunbed to tan, is the sunbed tanning tubes emit only a very tiny amount of UVB and over 99% UVA (the tanning ray), so you tan without the burning (following sunbed instructions is essential).
Remember, not all of us can tan the same way. Our skin reacts differently to UV radiation. People with darker skin tan much quicker as their skin produces melanin faster. People with paler skin tan much slower as their melanin levels are much lower and that’s when erythema risk is greater.
Do not exceed 6 minutes if you have fair skin or just starting a tan, the reception staff are fully trained and will advise you on session length depending on your skin type. This is why using our FULLY STAFFED and LICENSED salon is so important, rather than using UNMANNED and UNLICENSED sites.
If you answer YES to any of the questions below, you must seek medical advice or don’t use a sunbed:
- Are you aged under 18?
- Do you always burn in natural sunlight?
- Do you have a medical condition that becomes worse in sunlight?
- Do you have an excessive amount of moles and/or freckles?
- Do you have a history of sunburn, particularly from childhood?
- Do you have very white fair skin with ginger hair?
- Do you have skin cancer or does any member of your immediate family have/had skin cancer?
Also, if you are on any medication or drugs, please check with your GP or pharmacist before using a sunbed as certain drugs make the skin more sensitive to UV light. If you are pregnant, consult your GP before use.
